Behind the Vorssa Ink earrings is me, Kata, a basic rush hour chick from Forssa, Finland. I have been an entrepreneur for over 10 years, my main business is tattooing. I have been making earrings since 2017. I've been making them since I started in Estonia, and I'm always meditating on them. 

My passion for making things by hand is something I got in my mother's milk. I have always been a keen crafter. I got my first sewing machine when I was 10 and a sewing machine as a confession present. In secondary school, my dream job was to become a handicraft teacher. 

The crafts took over and I went to study design, graduating as a fashion designer in 2004. As a fashion designer I worked in a number of different places until the Vorssa Ink story started with tattoos. 

I got inspired to do tattoos half by accident in 2004, inspired by an acquaintance. For a long time, tattoos were my hobby alongside my paid job, until I was so interested in developing my skills and entrepreneurship that I quit my paid job. I became an entrepreneur and Vorssa Ink opened in Forssa, a lovely wooden village in 2012.

From tattoo artist to jeweller

The story of the earrings really began in winter 2018, when our firstborn daughter was still a heavy sleeper. As a maker, I needed to make something useful while she slept. On holiday in Brazil, I picked up a bunch of masses from the shop and used what I found in friends' cupboards as moulds. Macramé jewellery and colourful mass jewellery were the result. 

A lot of jewellery was made. So much so that I started selling them first to people I knew, then at the tattoo shop, at events, whenever. Soon, jewellery started appearing on the tattoo shop's Instagram and Facebook pages, until my own online shop was born. 

Now the jewellery shop is in full force and acts as a kind of meditation for me in the midst of my busy everyday life. Through jewellery I can express my creativity in a variety of ways and bring out my colourful and bold artistic personality.

Vorssa Ink earrings reflect my soul. They are bold and colourful, like everything I do. For me, courage means the courage to be myself. With earrings, as with tattoos, people can show their personality and express themselves, each as a bold and beautiful individual. 

The earrings exude a strong sense of "Aussie-ness", homemade and original, bold and different in a way. In Vorssa Ink earrings, nothing is small, everything is big. 

Earrings are born entirely from inspiration. I'm inspired by my surroundings, my customers' ideas, and whenever. Nothing is made by force, all jewellery is born out of great passion and inspiration. The range varies A LOT as ideas come at a fast pace.

Colours and richness are my thing. Colourful earrings are unique and big, but at the same time light, comfortable to wear. Colour saturation and colour combination play a big role in my earrings, like my tattoos.

Recycled materials, quality and domesticity play an important role in my crafts. I try to source all my accessories, packaging materials and jewellery parts from Finland, Finnish importers and subcontractors, as far as possible. At the same time supporting Finnish co-entrepreneurs.

I make all my unique earrings by hand, with love and passion in Forssa. I make my jewellery at home and in my tattoo shop in the centre of Forssa. The materials used for making the jewellery include epoxy resin, acrylic, domestic wood, rattan and polymer mass. And of course, glitter is a standard accessory, a LOT of it. Vorssa Ink earrings are big, colourful and spectacular. But the most important thing about my jewellery is that it's lightweight and super comfortable to wear! The most rewarding part is when I actually see my earrings in use! Then I know that someone has identified with my soul and wants to express their personality with unique and bold earrings.
