What's going on at the jewellery workshop in Forssa? Take a peek behind the scenes and see how your favourite jewellery is made!
A typical day at the substitute workshop in the centre of Forssa starts with checking online orders. The previous day's orders are reviewed and missing products are put to work. Online orders are usually sent out on the next working day if the product is in stock immediately.
The earrings are made from a wide range of materials, including acrylic, birch plywood, epoxy resin and polymer resin, and a plethora of decorations. Wooden and acrylic jewellery is usually readily available from stock, but some products, such as resin earrings, are made to order.
Vorssa Ink's aim is to manufacture as much as possible in the Forssa area. Cutting, casting, decorating, painting and assembling of earrings is done in Forssa, in Vorssa Ink's workshop or at Kata's home, in Forssa of course. Helping hands are Katan in addition to employees Emma and Anniina, and Kata's enthusiastic 6-year-old daughter (perhaps a future earrings entrepreneur?). Jewellery boxes are also made locally in Forssa.
From idea to drawing and finished product
The process of designing Vorssa Ink earrings could be described as a creative art. And that's what they are, art, products of Kata's soul landscape. Ideas are born out of nowhere. From the environment, from nature, from a single material, element, technique or colour. Sometimes Vorssa Ink products are born from the ideas and desires of you, our dear customers, which are further processed in the earrings workshop into unique Vorssa Ink earrings!
The Vorssa Ink design philosophy is based on Kata's own vision and ideas. The aim is not to follow trends or seasonal colours, but to create something completely original and authentic, homemade and different. This is what makes Vorssa Ink earrings so Vorsa - bold and guaranteed to be unique!
Kata draws the ideas for jewellery on a pad, where they are slowly transformed into the final product. There are many intermediate stages and all sorts of tinkering in the earring making process. On the workbench you'll find a laser cutter, UV printer, pliers, silicone moulds and glitter. Often there is a small-scale, controlled chaos in the workshop, but that's the Vorssalian style - work is done with heart and to the full.
After the designs, the first step is to make the earring parts. The intermediate stages vary according to the material and the way it is made. The acrylic earrings are made from a sheet of plastic that is cut to the desired shape using a laser cutter. Epoxy resin is a plastic mixture in which two different liquids are mixed together. Colours and other decorations, such as glitter, can be mixed in. The mixed liquid is poured into silicone products that you make yourself. Read more about earring making and materials.
Textured wooden earrings are made with a UV printer. The designs are printed on plywood, which is protected on both sides with a protective sheet. The pieces are then cut to shape with a laser cutter and the protective paper is peeled off the finished pieces.
